READING FOOD LABELS

Try not to buy any of your food that is packaged and labeled by a big business entity. There are so many loopholes and companies and industries with enough lobbying and legal muscle will find a way to exploit all of them. Many harmful ingredients and additives are not required by law to be listed. Packaged food for the most part means processed food and processed foods are laden with chemicals that make them last longer and look more inviting.

When we must buy something that is packaged, such as a 5 pound bag of carrots, off season in the North East, my first look is to the country of origin. There are certain nations we will NOT buy food from. Their standards are low, their track record abysmal and their credibility non-existent. Besides the country of origin, we consider all the data on food labels to be manipulated (but not necessarily false) data. Even the country of origin labeling is a bit suspect, prompting us to try and avoid packaged food at all costs.

If you are eating, real, whole foods, you needn’t worry about proteins, carbohydrates and fat content.

It’s all as it should be.
